Norton, the folks behind the famous antivirus software, is launching today an Android app meant to keep kids safe from malicious content on their smartphones.
The app allows parents to monitor their children’s smartphone activity to protect them from the undesirables of the free world. It allows them to view their children’s entire browsing activity, including which sites that visit, what they search for and who they’re texting.
Norton Online Family does come with a price tag, offering such benefits to the Norton Safety Minder users as:
* Ability to track who kids have been exchanging text and MMS messages with and check their contact lists.
* White and black list creation tool with approved and not-approved friends, respectively.
* See all the apps kids install and uninstall on their Android phone
The app offers more features for Norton Online Family Premier holders ($49.99/year or $29.99/year for the first year, direct). Premier members can also see whom their children text or MMS, plus the contents of these conversations, which sit in Symantec's servers for up to 90 days. From the Web-based control panel parents can create a white-list of approved contacts and a black-list of people to block.
Norton Safety Minder only works on Android 2.2 and 2.3 devices for now. Symantec also offers Norton Online Family To Go, a similar mobile monitoring app for iOS users.
